Mrs. Fagerness Message

The winter months are proving to be very successful for CMS students! One area we are especially proud of is the continued work of our Associated Student Body (ASB), which plays a key role in fostering a strong sense of belonging and school pride.

Each month, ASB leads our schoolwide themes, and the theme for January is Commitment. This word perfectly captures the dedication and leadership we see from our student leaders every day. We are excited to highlight our ASB officers: Adam Elder, President; Hadley Niemi, Vice President; Kennadee Jewel, Secretary; Japbir Singh, Treasurer; and Drew Hill, Sergeant-at-Arms. Along with an entire student council of 45 members, these students have done a terrific job keeping student activities, school spirit, and positive connections at the forefront of life at CMS.
As a reminder, the new quarter begins on January 26. With the start of a new quarter, we want to remind families that due to our building being at capacity, we are unable to make schedule changes based on preferences. However, we will correct true scheduling errors, including:
  • A missing core class or a duplicate class
  • Incorrect level or placement (for example, math placement)
  • IEP, 504, or ELL services not reflected on the schedule
If you believe your student has a scheduling error that meets one of the criteria above, please contact the school administration and we will review it. For all other requests—such as teacher or period preferences, elective swaps, lunch changes, or friend requests—we are unable to make adjustments this year.
Thank you for your continued partnership and support of our CMS students and programs.

SchooLinks

Are You On SchooLinks Yet?
As we approach the midpoint of the school year, we'd like to ask you to take a moment to register your parent/guardian account in SchooLinks if you have not already done so. SchooLinks is a new, state-required platform for all 7th–12th grade students in Washington. It is used to complete the High School and Beyond Plan (HSBP), which is a graduation requirement. An annual parent/guardian check in is also required, making registering your parent account essential.
Please note that SchooLinks is separate from Skyward Family Access (student and family data), and ParentSquare (school communication). Even if you already use those platforms, you must register separately for SchooLinks.
For more information about SchooLinks visit: https://chehalisschools.org/schoolinks. If you need assistance registering your SchooLinks parent account, please contact Autumn Ledgerwood at aledgerwood@chehalisschools.org.

Community Connections - Electrician

On Friday, January 9th our 7th and 8th grade students were given the opportunity to attend a Community Connections event focused on Electrician careers. Jonathan Arias from the IBEW Local 76 shared valuable information about three apprenticeship career pathways including Construction Inside Wireman, Residential Wireman, and Sound Communications Technicians.

Our students learned about the specific responsibilities among these pathways as well as the differences between pursuing union and non-union careers in this field.

We are so thankful for Jonathan's time and expertise!

Community Connections - Investigator

We are thankful to have been joined by Chehalis Middle School and W.F. West alum, Dusty Breen, and his colleagues (Josh and Felicia) from the Washington State Office of Independent Investigations (OII) for a Community Connections event on January 27th. Our 7th and 8th grade students in attendance learned about a unique career within the law enforcement category that they may not have known existed. Dusty shared specifically about his role as a Senior Investigator in a region of over 10 counties, including Lewis. Dusty serves an integral role in investigations involving police use of deadly force, including evidence collection as well as interviews and partnering with regional Community Liaisons for the purpose of transparency.
