Student Voice Matters at CMS!

At CMS, we believe student voice is one of the most powerful tools for building a positive school culture!

Recently, we have been inviting small groups of student volunteers to join us during lunch to share their thoughts and experiences at CMS. This week's prompt was simple but powerful:

"I feel like I belong at CMS when…"

Their answers were incredible!

Students shared that it's the little things—someone smiling and saying hello, Mr. Annon and Mr. Smaciarz calling out greetings across the portable back lot, and their principals welcoming them each morning.

When it came to the activities that give them a sense of belonging, many echoed clubs, Spark Time, and spending lunch with friends.

We also asked the harder question: "What makes you feel like you don't belong?" Students shared that seeing others sitting alone or hearing kids being unkind can make school feel less welcoming.

Our students know what happens every day at CMS. They are the experts on their own experiences, and their voices are essential to creating positive change. Their observations, ideas, and perspectives matter!

We are excited to continue these conversations and use what we learn to strengthen our Wildcat community.

Want to learn more about how we're elevating student voice? Reach out! We would love to invite you to join us for a lunchtime conversation with our students.

Together, we are building a school where every Wildcat feels seen, heard, valued, and connected!
